Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad of Tunisia signs the intergovernmental handover certificate of the Chinese government-aided Tunisian Diplomatic Academy project

On April 28, the intergovernmental handover ceremony of the China-aided Tunisian Diplomatic Academy Project was held. Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Qian Keming and Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Othman Jerandi attended the ceremony via video link and signed the handover certificate together. The event was also attended by Chinese Ambassador to Tunisia Zhang Jianguo and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and China International Development Cooperation Agency.

Vice Minister Qian said in his remarks that with the joint support of the two governments, the Chinese side, despite the Covid-19 challenges, managed to complete the construction of the project with high standard and high quality, making contributions to deepening friendly relations and practical cooperation between the two sides. In recent years, with the care from President Xi Jinping and President Kais Saeid, bilateral relations have kept the sound momentum of development. The two countries have carried out fruitful cooperation under the frameworks of the Belt and Road Initiative, Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and China-Arab States Cooperation Forum, and delivered tangible benefits to the two peoples. China stands ready to keep working with Tunisia to pursue common development and bring China-Tunisia friendly cooperation to a new height.

Minister Jerandi expressed heartfelt thanks to China for its tremendous efforts in project construction, which is the best example of Tunisia-China friendly and practical cooperation. Minister Jerandi said that the project shows the goodwill of the Chinese government and the Chinese people and demonstrates China’s excellent engineering and technical skills. The two countries’ cooperation on development aid is crucial for regional peace, development and stability. Since the pandemic broke out, China immediately shared with Tunisia response measures and provided vaccines and anti-pandemic supplies to Tunisia, for which Tunisia extends sincere gratitude to the government and people of China. Tunisia looks forward to fostering more practical cooperation under bilateral and multilateral mechanisms and strengthening communication and coordination on international and regional issues.

The Chinese government-aided Tunisian Diplomatic Academy Project is a key project under the “eight major initiatives” of FOCAC Beijing Summit in 2018. The construction of the project began in June 2019 and was completed in February 2022.
